Breathing Gap Grid
A wall of square tiles on a black screen in four columns centred on it, the outer two running half off its edges: eighty editorial photos (portraits, busts and plaster casts, ceramics, dried flowers, fashion, sneakers, chairs and still lifes, a dune) mixed with seven squares of set type (a white "A" on cobalt, a red "N" on cream, "ROOM" three times in white on black, "Hi." in black on white, "LOOK" twice in cobalt on white, a white "O" on red, "GAP" in black on cream), dealt so that the same tile never appears within eight cells of itself. Each photo darkens softly towards its bottom edge. Tiny capitals sit in the corners: "Studio Notes", "Frames" and a live readout of the columns and the gap ("4 col · Gap 14 pt") along the top, "Pinch", "Drag" and "Tap" along the bottom. Opened out, the wall zooms out to eight whole columns of small tiles with even margins at both edges, and the rows part around a darkened lane across the middle where "Room to breathe" sits in spaced capitals between two thin rules. A tapped tile lifts out to nearly the full width over the blurred, dimmed wall, with a glow in its own colour beneath it and its note and title underneath.
