Sand Hourglass

A focus timer with an hourglass for a clock, standing on a linen-coloured table in afternoon light: a frameless glass between two pale oak caps, its bulbs catching white streaks and the reflection of a window, holding 2,300 grains of terracotta sand, each a tiny lit bead. The glass throws a long, soft shadow across the table to the right, with a warm patch of light where the sun passes through an empty bulb. Below it sit a large timer and a line of text, and at the bottom a ruler of minutes under an orange needle. Slide the ruler to choose from 1 to 60 minutes, then turn the glass over by dragging around it, twisting it with two fingers or tapping it: the sand runs through the neck at the pace that empties the top bulb on time, the timer counts down what is left and says when the session ends, and when the last grain lands a band of light crosses the glass and the timer reads "Well done".
