Stripe Swirl Type
The new-issue screen of an invented magazine, Undertow: its cover line MAKE / SOME / WAVES, set in a condensed grotesque and a display serif, is drawn only as off-white horizontal stripes that taper to rounded ends at the letter edges. A swirl field stirs the words: around its centre the stripes twist into rings and arcs, keep their stroke width as they pack together, and break into capsules of red, blue, green, yellow and sky, then the swirl unwinds past straight and back and the words read again.
