Gumball Crank
Today's treat from a real gumball machine: cherry enamel over a cast body, a chrome lid, collar, plate and foot, and a glass globe full of gumballs, on an oak table against a warm plaster wall, lit from one window high on the left. Turn the handle once around with your finger: it clicks through four detents (the pawl lets it strain back but never turn back) and the gumballs jostle against each other and the glass at each click. The chute's flap swings open, a capsule rolls out of the door toward you, rocks to a stop, and its clear top pops off and lands upside down on the table; a card rises out of it with the day's coins. Collect sends eight coins arcing into the wallet, whose balance rolls up from 1,240 to 1,290.
