Pixel Spend Staircase
A month's spending as a staircase of pixels on a dark screen: each column is a day, lit in an ember gradient from the bottom up to the running total, over last month's staircase in grey. The bright red top cell is the cursor, with "$123 today" above the chart and the month-to-date total floating over it. Dragging across the chart moves the cursor: the days after it go dark from the top down, and moving forward lights them again in a rising pixel sweep while the amounts roll.
