Pull Cord Theme
A reading app whose Day/Night switch is the lamp over the page. A green enamel pendant hangs over a chapter of an invented novel; a nickel ball chain hangs from a knurled switch housing under the shade. Take the pull (or any ball of the chain) and tug: past the click the filament fades through orange and the room goes dark, the far corners first and the pool under the shade last; pull again and the filament warms from ember to warm white while the lit page develops out of the pool of light the shade throws, text changing colour inside the glyphs as the front crosses them. The light is a light field, not a gradient: a cone with a soft penumbra, falloff with distance, a faint haze with a few dust motes, the chain's soft shadow on the page, the shade's own shadow above it. The chain swings with the finger, shivers at the click and springs back; the shade sways and its light swings with it. Tapping the pull or the switch's accessibility action plays the same tug.
