Railway Switch Nav
Northline, a commuter app, uses a little signal box as its bottom navigation: four painted levers with steel handles (Home, Trips, Tickets, Account) in a mahogany frame under an enamel track diagram. Pulling a lever sets a route: switch blades throw, the section's signal and lever lamp turn from red to green, the route lights up, and a tiny two-car train runs from the current section's platform to the new one, while the section's page (next train and line status, trips with a route map, a monthly pass with its barcode and validity, the account) slides in from the side the train went. Drag a lever down or tap it to travel.
